What is Set Top Box and how to set?

If you are using TV to watch Serials or Movies at home, then you must have seen a small box near the TV, and must be wondering what is the Set Top Box and what will be its work. The answer is that it is Set Top Box. Now you must be wondering what is this machine? Why do we take it with our TV? Can we do it by not applying it? Are there different types of it? If all these questions are arising in your mind then do not panic because you are going to know in this article only about what this set top box is and how to set these set top boxes.

By the way, the function of the set up box is to decode the information received from the satellites and finally deliver it to the TV, so that we can see that decoded information from the medium of our TV. This box is also called set up unit (stu). There are many questions about this box in the minds of people, so today I thought why should you be given complete information about Set Top Box in Hindi? So that in the coming time, you already have complete information about this subject. Then without delay, let's start and know the information of the set top box in Hindi.

A Set-top box (STB) or Set Top Unit (STU) is a hardware device that allows to receive a digital signal, decode it and finally display it on a television. This signal can be a television signal or Internet data, which is received via cable or telephone connection.

If we talk about the earlier times, then more use of Set Top Boxes is in cable and satellite television. This STB can easily deliver more channels than a television's own channel numbering system. It receives signals that contain data from multiple channels, but it filters out only the channels that a user would like to see. Other channels are usually transmit to an auxiliary channel in a television. If I talk about the second feature, then it has a decoder which is used for viewing pay-per-view and premium channels.

Current modern STB systems have two-way communication, due to which it has interactive features such as adding premium channels directly to a device or incorporating Internet access into it.

They are used in a cable television, satellite television, and over-the-air television systems. A set-top box is also called a set-top unit.

Architecture of Set Top Box
In this, STB first selects appropriate broadcast TV information, for which it tunes one of the many input channels. These signals are digitally modulated in satellite applications using Quadrature Phase Shift Key (QPSK), in Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) cable and in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) terrestrial. Then the information which is selected is processed in the selected RF channel by the demodulator to produce an MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) which contains audio, video and other information which is related to the selected TV program .

STB also has some modem to send and receive interactive data. Conventional telecommunication modems are typically used in satellite and terrestrial STBs, while cable STBs have a cable modem. DOCSIS cable modems QAM demodulator is used in downstream data while out-of-hand DAVIC cable modems are used in QPSK demodulator. In both cases, a QPSK modulator is used to transmit upstream data, although DOCSIS also has a 16 QAM mode.

It is seen that digital TV information is sometimes encrypted in an MPEG-2 TS so that users are not able to watch the channels for which they are not paying. MPEG demultiplexer selects and decrypts compressed audio and video in a particular programme that the viewer wants to watch, using decryption keys that are supplied by Conditional Access Sub System (CASS). The MPEG decoder then compresses the audio and video information for the selected programme. Here the Central Processing Unit (CPU) controls the entire operation and performs the specific data manipulation function. It generally uses a Real Time Operating System (RTOS) at the top of the hardware abstraction layer, so that the resources and processes of STB can be managed which are directed by a higher level software.
